Summary:
The Senior Director, Revenue Accounting will lead the revenue accounting activities for all products and related accounts, including accounts receivable, rebates, commercial chargebacks, returns reserve, royalty revenue, Medicaid, 340B discounts/chargebacks, GPO fees and all other contractual fees and expenses related to revenue. This position oversees complex revenue arrangements, Gross-to-Net (GTN) accounting, and chargeback processing and analysis. This position will participate, and support forecasting and budgeting processes specifically focused on understanding of Gross to Net estimates for existing and future products.
The Senior Director, Revenue Accounting is a leadership position within the Corporate Accounting Department. The ideal candidate possesses technical competence and experience in product revenue accounting and analytics, in-depth knowledge of chargebacks, rebates and commercial discounts programs accounting and operation, contract compliance and operational experience and team management expertise.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.
 
  • Lead and oversee the revenue accounting function, including oversight of all product revenue and related gross to net accounting (discounts, service fees, returns, rebates and chargebacks) and all related revenue accounts, including accounts receivables and royalties
  •  Manage monthly and quarterly close process to ensure accuracy of internal and external financial reporting ensuring timeliness and accuracy including:
    • Reviewing month end entries and reconciliations for revenue, gross to net accruals, allocation of product sales by production site and sales region and all other revenue related accounts
    • Manage the consolidation and distribution of the monthly revenue flash report and other ad-hoc reports
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Market Access, Sales, Commercial Analytics) to ensure reporting accuracy and support internal business requests for product performance analytics
  • Oversee the Medicaid and 340b monthly, quarterly, and annual submissions to the appropriate government agencies for all products
  • Drive continuous development of tools to drive efficiency and promote scalability as it relates to issue identification and resolution in day-to-day operations such as chargebacks processing
  • Review contracts for revenue accounting implications (e.g., renewals, contract modifications, and variable consideration)
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance as we launch product offerings and expand our customer base and supporting forecasting and budgeting processes specifically focused on understanding of Gross to Net estimates
  • Work closely with external auditors to drive timely accounting conclusions for revenue recognition. Act as a primary point of contact throughout the audit process for external/internal auditors and consultants on technical revenue matters
  • Lead and mentor a team of revenue accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture and a continuous improvement mindset
  • Work to maximize process efficiencies, ensure processes have effective internal controls and meet business needs

Interaction:
The incumbent reports to the Corporate Controller and works closely with Finance, Sales, Market Access, Commercial Analytics, National Accounts, Legal, customers, internal and external auditors, and vendors.
 
Education and Experience:
  • BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university required; Accounting, Finance, or Mathematics/Statistics concentration preferred  
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, experience with complex revenue recognition transactions and Gross-to-Net accounting required with prior experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry preferred
  • 5+ years of direct management experience leading accounting operations
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience required with PowerBI preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
     
    • Deep knowledge of corporate accounting and revenue accounting requirements, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
    • Ability to develop, maintain and evaluate models for calculating and forecasting gross-to-net deductions
    • Demonstrated excellent analytical abilities and effective oral and written communication skills
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multi-project and multi-product manufacturing organization
    • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business process transformation
    • High proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities and meet deadlines
